Caribbean Gut Health Companion
What This App Is

GutWell is an educational demonstration project exploring how AI can be used to build practical, real-world health tools. It was created to showcase prompt engineering and AI-assisted app development using Claude by Anthropic.

What It Offers

A structured gut health protocol with Caribbean-specific meal guidance, herb rotation, daily symptom tracking, journaling, and an AI wellness assistant — all designed for general educational and wellness reference.

🌿 About GutWell

My mummy is a health enthusiast.

In one of our many conversations about wellness, an idea came up regarding the brain-gut connection and the links between digestion, energy levels, and how that can be tracked.

That conversation planted a seed. Because while GutWell is a demonstration of AI-assisted development, it is also something more than that — it is about encouraging healthy habits. Sound health begins in the gut, and small, consistent daily habits are where that journey starts.

Around the same time, I had been curious about the real capability of AI — specifically Claude by Anthropic. Not the surface-level "ask it a question" kind of use, but something deeper. Could I use it to actually build something? Something functional, useful, and deployable?

GutWell became the answer to both questions at once.

💡 How It Was Built

This app was created entirely through structured collaboration with Claude, Anthropic's AI assistant — using prompt engineering, iterative testing, and clear thinking rather than traditional coding.

Every feature was scoped, built, tested, broken, fixed, and refined through conversation. The AI generated the code. The judgment, decisions, and direction were mine.

This project is a demonstration of what becomes possible when domain knowledge meets the right tools and the will to keep going.

⚙️ What This Demonstrates

A few things this project reflects in practice:

✓Prompt engineering applied to a real-world problem
✓Taking an idea from concept to a deployed, working product
✓Iterative development — building, testing, and improving
✓Responsible decision-making about features and user safety
✓Continuous learning as a daily practice

📱 Keeping Your Data & Tracking Progress

GutWell saves everything privately on the device being used. Here is what you need to know to get the most out of it.

WHERE DATA LIVES

All logs — check-ins, journal entries, and symptoms — are saved directly on the device. Nothing is sent to the internet. Only the person using the device can see it.

TO KEEP DATA SAFE
●Always open GutWell from the same browser. If Chrome was used to open it the first time, always use Chrome. Safari and Chrome do not share data.
●The safest option is to add GutWell to the home screen. Tap Share then Add to Home Screen on iPhone, or tap the three dots then Add to Home Screen on Android. Opening it from the home screen icon keeps everything consistent.
●Do not clear browser history or browser data — doing so will permanently delete all check-in history and journal entries.
TO TRACK PROPERLY
✓Check in every day — even on bad days. Honest data builds the clearest picture over time.
✓Log a journal entry a few times a week. Patterns often only become visible when things are written down.
✓Tap the Progress tab after two weeks to see trends — bloating averages, energy levels, skin flares, and the current streak.
✓Export data from the Progress tab before any phone reset or upgrade. This creates a spreadsheet that can be saved or emailed to a practitioner.
IF SWITCHING PHONES

Export data first from the Progress tab. History cannot be transferred automatically — it lives on the current device only.
